Danica Patrick, Joe Montana and Chris Evert Come to Speak About Career Trials and Tribulations
The 2020 Rancho Mirage Speaker Series lineup brings an exciting lineup of “Legends of Sports.” Speakers from three different sporting arenas will captivate audiences with stories of their trials and tribulations both professionally and personally. After each speaking engagement, the Speaker Series Commission presents an intimate meet and greet with delightful bites, wine and cocktails, live music, and photo opportunities for those purchasing the VIP experience.
Retired race car driver, author, entrepreneur and podcast host Danica Patrick is first to take the stage on January 21.
Patrick broke barriers and set records with her on-track performance. With her racing career behind her, she looks to her next chapter as she focuses on her passions: food, wine, fitness and helping others achieve their goals.
Patrick joined the mainstream ranks by succeeding in the male-dominated world of professional motorsports. In 2005, Patrick stunned the world by leading 19 laps and finishing fourth in her first Indianapolis 500. She became the first woman to lead laps and score a top-five finish in the historic race.
She is also the first woman to:
- Win a major-league open-wheel race in a North American series with her victory in the IndyCar Series Indy Japan 300 race.
- Win a NASCAR Cup Series pole when she set the fastest time in qualifying 500 and then finished in eighth place, the highest finishing position ever for a woman in the “Great American Race.”
- Host of the ESPY’s – ESPN’s Sports Award show.
Her podcast is named after her book, “Pretty Intense,” a mind, body, and food plan geared to change readers’ lives.
Legendary NFL quarterback, Pro Football Hall of Famer, four-time Super Bowl champion and three-time Super Bowl MVP Joe Montana speaks on February 18.
Widely considered the best NFL quarterback of all time, Montana personifies performance excellence and personal integrity both on and off the field. Yet the word most closely associated with him is not “winner” but “leader.”
As a member of the San Francisco 49ers, he won four Super Bowls, accomplishing in football what may never be equaled. He also won more than 70 percent of the games he started during his 16-year career as one of the toughest quarterbacks ever to play the game.
After retiring from professional football in 1995, “Joe Cool” now brings his lessons of preparation, teamwork, and performance under pressure to large and small audiences.
Taking the stage on March 17 is Chris Evert. The tennis pro learned to play at the age of 5 and, by age 15, she defeated Margaret Court, the No. 1 player in the world. Evert left her indelible mark in women’s tennis when she revolutionized women’s tennis and the style of play with her two-handed backhand and her perfect groundstroke game, which still prevails in today’s game.
Evert broke many records on her way to an illustrious career, winning a total of 18 Grand Slam Singles Titles (7 French Open, 3 Wimbledon Championships, 6 US Open & 2 Australian Open Titles) and three doubles. Evert was the year-ending World No.1 singles player from 1974 to 1978, and in 1980 and 1981. Overall, Evert won 157 singles championships and 32 doubles titles and reached 34 Grand Slam singles finals, more than any other player in the history of professional tennis.
She retired at age 34 as the American World No. 1 tennis player and is currently a tennis analyst for ESPN for the Grand Slam Tournaments. She also runs the Evert Tennis Academy in Boca Raton and Chris Evert Charities. Through her charity, she has raised over 25 Million for At-Risk Children and Families, drug abused and neglected children.
