As the temperatures start to dip and days get shorter, it’s a sure sign that the fall season is upon us, and one of the Palm Springs Valley’s most crowd-pleasing annual, autumnal gatherings is Rancho Mirage Art Affaire. Held at the city’s beautiful municipal park (recently renamed the Rancho Mirage Community Park), which is located just a bit behind Highway 111 landmark the Elephant Car Wash sign, this fabulously free family-friendly fall festival will take place Saturday and Sunday, November 8 and 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., come rain or come shine!
Every year the art affaire seems to get better and better. For 2014, we can expect more than 100 talented artists from near and far, who will be on hand to display their beautiful creations. And for those in a buying mood, everything happens to be for sale. Since this is a juried art show, you can be assured the selection of ceramics, sculpture, textiles, glasswork, watercolor and oil painting, metalwork, photography, mixed media, and jewelry will be some of the most beautiful and creative works available in today’s art market.
And even with a name like “Art Affaire,” it’s not actually just ALL about art. Music lovers turn out for some great tunes performed by top-notch musicians. This year’s headliners are smooth jazz and fun guitarist Nick Colionne (www.nickcolionne.com), performing on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 sharp, and award-winning keyboardist and producer Jeff Lorber and his band Fusion (www.lorber.com), taking the stage on Sunday, also at 3:00 p.m.
A great selection of food from some of your favorite Rancho Mirage and Palm Springs Valley restaurants will be available to sate your appetite, and the traditional beer garden will be open to serve brew and wine.
Since I love art, enjoy beautiful music, and appreciate visiting with others who would never miss such a fun get-together, I’ll be there both days. Join me in the park for this annual art extravaganza.
