A Porsche Dream…and then some

Since I was a wee one in South America, I have always been fascinated by all things of a mechanical nature.  Oddly, it wasn’t until my twenties that I really discovered cars.  But when the bug bit, it bit hard.  I’ve bought and sold all kinds of automobiles over the years, but have settled on my love for Jags in the recent past.  Until now… I just may have a new love.

The Heather James Gallery on El Paseo in Palm Desert was the setting for the recent unveiling of Desert European Motorcars’ new 2013 Porsche Boxster S.  And when I say “unveiling,” I mean “unveiling.”  The fully loaded (at a cool $83,000) black on black beauty was shrouded under a black cape for much of the event, until said cape was dramatically raised off this gorgeous specimen to a chorus of “Oohs!” and “Ahhs!”  Oh, and applause.  Lots of thunderous applause.  My, oh, my…  This classy hardtop convertible stole my heart.

Now available at Desert European on 111 in Rancho Mirage, this Porsche is only one of the many über-luxury autos sold and serviced at this automotive mecca in the Palm Springs Valley, which also stocks the likes of Rolls Royce, Bentley, Audi, Land Rover, Lotus, Astin Martin, Maserati, and yes, Jaguars.  With prices from about 50k to 500k (I may be exaggerating just a bit on that high end, but not by much!), you’re sure to find the car of your dreams.

I spend way more time roaming that hot wheels hotspot’s showrooms than I should, but the sales staff is always willing to indulge my questions—and my fantasies—knowing full well that I will, in fact, be there to buy my next car.  Who knows if the new Boxster will win out, or if my long-term affair with Jags will prevail?  But in the meantime, I always know where to go for the best exclusive automotive sales and service in the desert.
