The Palm Springs Valley performance venue known as The Show—which was unveiled at Rancho Mirage’s Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa in 2009—won “Best Casino Showroom/Theater of the Year” at the G2E Global Gaming Conference’s Casino Entertainment Awards in Las Vegas on October 2. G2E (AKA the Global Gaming Expo) is the largest worldwide gathering of casino entertainment professionals, and its awards ceremony is the only one to recognize outstanding artists, executives, and venues in the casino entertainment industry.

For those unfortunate souls who for some reason have never experienced a performance at The Show, the venue was constructed at a cost of 76 million dollars, is one of the greenest theatres in the country, and is state of the art in every respect: the very boards, backstage, front of house, the lighting and audio system, and the booth. Despite being able to accommodate more than 2000 guests, The Show feels intimate, with no seat farther than 150 feet from the stage.

“Congratulations to [The Show Director of Entertainment] Dan Pferschy, and The Show team members on their well-deserved honor,” Executive Director of Marketing Kari Stout Smith recently said. “From the talent buyers to the marketing department, the box office staff to the operations and technical crew, it is a team effort, and I believe we have the best in the business.”

Many people are saying that The Show’s 2013-2014 season has been one of the best, and I would heartily agree. Just a few of the world-renowned acts that have sold out—and brought down—the house in the last 12 months include Dolly Parton, Air Supply, Neil Sedaka, Wanda Sykes, Bryan Adams, Kathy Griffin, and Peter Frampton. Of the artists soon to grace The Show’s stage—Def Leppard, Gary Allan, Styx, and The Beach Boys just to name four—I am most excited about Culture Club, which is kicking off its reunion world tour right here in Rancho Mirage on November 15.

So here’s to The Show and everyone behind its scenes! We desert dwellers are so fortunate to have you in our own back yard.
