For their visit to the Palm Springs White Party, my friends Chris and Kevin from Calgary decided they wanted to stay at a place they’d only viewed from afar—the Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa in Rancho Mirage. I was all for it since it’s right down the road from my place and I relished spending some fun time with them while they were in town. I mean, who doesn’t like a visit to a first-rate casino complex?
I stopped over to see them the day they flew in. Of course, they wanted to show off their beautiful high-floor balcony room with the view of the mountains—which they tell me came in very handy a few days later when they got to witness the full moon over the snow-capped San Jacintos. We then headed down to the casino to play a few slots. I won a few, lost a few, lost some more! While I still had enough lunch money left, we finally headed into the nicely appointed Waters Café.
Agua Caliente’s buffet is fab, and The Steakhouse is always a treat, but I just love the ambiance and casual atmosphere of Waters. I’ve eaten here a number of times for both lunch and early dinner. The menu is pretty extensive and the chef knows his audience. All-day breakfast works perfectly in a place where it’s easy to stay up all night. And their soups, salads, and sandwiches are all really great. But I always head directly for the Asian menu. With dishes from China, Thailand, India, and beyond, I couldn’t be happier. Potstickers. Pad Thai. Red Curry. BBQ ribs. Kung Pao Chicken. I’m hungry just writing this.
My buddies and I gorged, then headed back to the floor for a few hands of poker. I know it’s not polite to boast, but on that day, all told, I ended up winning. Big time!
