I’m always shocked by how quickly time flies. And with so much always going on in the communities of the Greater Palm Springs Oasis, it’s important to keep an accurate calendar so that we can all fit everything in! In the blink of an eye, it’s already time to start planning ahead for the 2013 BNP Paribas Open, which takes place this year from March 4 – 17, 2013 at the beautiful Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Some of the best and brightest tennis players in the world will be battling it out for trophies—and for more than 10 million dollars in prize money—on the 23 hard-surface courts, with the finale being played in the 16,000-seat Main Stadium. www.bnpparibasopen.com
Both of last year’s BNP Paribas winners—Men’s World #2 player Roger Federer and Women’s #1 Victoria Azarenka—will be on hand to defend their titles. On the men’s side, we can expect World #1 Novak Djokovic (two-time BNP winner), World #3 and 2013 US Open Champion Andy Murray, and World #5 Rafael Nadal (also a two-time BNP winner) to vie for this year’s trophy. And in women’s competition, we’ll see World #2 Maria Sharapova (previous BNP winner) and World #4 Agnieszka Radwanska, as well as Jelena Jankovic, Ana Ivanovic, and Daniela Hantuchova, all previous BNP champions.
As usual, it’s best to plan ahead when buying either individual tickets or any of the available single-day, multiple-day, or tournament packages, as they sell out quickly. This being the height of the season in the Palm Springs Valley, it’s also wise to secure accommodations early on, and to give yourself plenty of time while in the desert to rest, relax, dine, shop, golf, and pamper yourself at some of the best resorts in the world. Not to be biased, but my home town of Rancho Mirage (right down Highway 111 from Indian Wells) offers three great choices—Westin Mission Hills, Rancho Las Palmas, and Agua Caliente Casino Spa Resort. You know me by now. Would I ever I steer you wrong? www.westinmissionhills.com www.rancholaspalmas.com www.hotwatercasino.com
