I just love being the bearer of good news—especially when it’s all about beer! And the good news is that, thankfully for the people who live in and visit the Palm Springs Valley, Rancho Mirage’s Babe’s Bar-B-Que & Brewhouse was recently crowned Brewery of the Year in the California State Fair Commercial Craft Beer Competition. While the beloved hot spot that anchors dining, shopping, and entertainment complex The River has earned nearly two dozen local awards since opening its doors in 2002, this prize definitely tops them all.
To accomplish this amazing feat, Babe’s entered the required half-dozen beers into the contest, including its 2015 L.A. Medal-winning “Bin 1214 Red Ale.” With each of its beers earning Win, Place, or Show status, Babe’s walked away with the largest accumulation of points to steal the title. Just to get an idea of what an achievement this is, more than 300 breweries brought more than 1200 beers into the race.
At a special “Best of Cal” tasting event and ceremony held on the steps of the State Capitol in Sacramento on Tuesday, June 23, Babe’s and its brew masters were recognized by State Assembly member Kevin McCarty.
“In any competition, winning Brewery of the Year is the ultimate!” says COO and chef extraordinaire Arthur Vasquez. “In order to achieve this, all your individual beers need to rank high! Multiple breweries win first place each year…but only one takes home Brewery of the Year! Babe’s shares this achievement with all our Craft Beer Partners, our loyal guests, and the entire desert community!”
I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to crack open a cold one. Go on down to Babe’s and sample the best of the best up close and personal. See you there! And cheers!
