Take in July 4th fireworks and festivities

Light up your Independence Day with a number of events in Rancho Mirage this holiday. There’s a lot of fun to be had for the whole family.

First for the Fourth

Head to the Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert for the First Annual Kidependence Day this July 4th! This debut event celebrates heroes and hosts Wonder Woman and Captain America. Join in the pie-eating contest and, if you’re still hungry, enjoy family favorites like hot dogs and watermelon available for purchase. There’s no need to register for this 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. event, it’s included with admission or membership.

No school? Let’s go to the pool!

Now that most kids have summer vacation, it’s a great time to put a family trip on your list of “things to do.” Why not kick it off during the July 4th weekend at one of the many family-friendly resorts in Rancho Mirage?

Splash into summer at The Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa with a Summer Chillabration. Resort specials include spa deals, exclusive dining experiences, poolside activities and fun for the entire family. Take advantage of tennis lessons, golf specials, yard games, live entertainment and more.

At Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa, the whole family can keep cool at Splashtopia, the on-site water park.  Relax in the 425-foot lazy river or get your blood pumping with two 100-foot waterslides. Enjoy a cliff-side Jacuzzi, sandy beach and unique water-play zones with fountains and sprinklers.  The Omni Kids Crew program caters to the youngest guests with a backpack filled with fun items, including crayons, binoculars, card games and more (provided upon request.) Plus, surprise the youngsters with milk and cookies room service on your first night.

The Ritz-Carlton, Rancho Mirage offers a variety of supervised physical and creative activities designed especially for children aged 5-12. Ritz Kids has something for every family, with immersive and adventurous programs focused on the natural wonders and rich cultural traditions of the local area.

The Big Bang

Let’s face it, the best part of any 4th of July celebration has to be after dark. This year’s spectacular fireworks display is synchronized to music and hosted by Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa, located on the corner of Bob Hope Drive and Interstate 10.

The Stars & Stripes Celebration will begin at approximately 9 p.m. with free parking available in the lot south of the resort. A limited number of reserved parking spaces will be available to Rancho Mirage residents who display their Resident Parking Permit.  To access these spots, please arrive early.  If you don’t already have your Resident Parking Permit, you can stop by City Hall and pick one up.  Proof of Rancho Mirage residency is required.
