Great Ways to Welcome 2020

Want to give 2019 a spirited send-off or quietly bid it adieu? Whatever your pleasure, New Year’s Eve in Rancho Mirage presents a number of opportunities to welcome 2020.

Festivities for the family

Get an early start on celebrations with your youngsters at the Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert’s “Countdown to Noon-Year 2020.” Doors open at 10 a.m. and kids can participate in different activities throughout the museum, including the kid-friendly crafting of party hats and noisemakers. Then assemble for the countdown and balloon drop at 12 p.m. No advance reservations required. Event is included with museum admission price of $9.95 per person over the age of 1.

It’s a mildly wild New Year’s Eve when doors open at 6 p.m. at The Living Desert for the “Roaring ‘20s Old Hollywood” New Year’s Eve party. Welcome 2020 in 1920s style with tray-passed appetizers and a 3-course plated dinner packed with favorite ‘20s-themed foods. Plus, enjoy animal encounters and live entertainment. Watch the ball drop live from New York’s Times Square at 9 p.m. and then hit the dance floor as a DJ spins until 10 p.m.

Last dinner of the decade

Reservations are preferred (and seats are booking quickly) for dining options around Rancho Mirage. Book your spot early for one of these many restaurants.

Acqua California Bistro presents a festive four-course dinner with main course entrees that include Chilean sea bass, New Zealand rack of lamb, Sonomo duck breast and lobster pot pie. Seating starts at 4:30p.m., $49.99 per person includes hats, party favors and a glass of Champagne with dessert. Countdown to New York’s New Year’s Eve at 9 p.m.

Bernie’s Lounge and Supper Club hosts New Year’s Eve Dinner with First seating: 4:306:30 pm, $72 per person. Second seating, 7:3010 p.m., $132 per person. The early seating offers a four-course prix fixe meal and the late seating also includes a soup course and bottomless champagne.  

bluEmber celebrates New Year’s Eve from 59:30 p.m. Enjoy starters like shrimp cocktail or oyster shooters, and entrees that include Scottish salmon, Maple Leaf Farms duck breast, and braised short ribs. Enjoy the dessert buffet before the midnight toast.  

Catalan Mediterranean Cuisine offers a set menu on New Year’s Eve with a champagne toast. The live band starts at 9 p.m.

Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort’s ballroom features a buffet of cheeses, seafood, carved meats such as New York strip loin and roasted turkey, and a wide variety of salads, soups and baked goods. Seating available from 68 p.m.; a DJ spins 610 p.m. $74 per adults and $32 for children 5-12 years old. 

Si Bon rings in 2020 with a special New Year’s Eve menu featuring appetizers such as Maine lobster bisque and Kumiai oysters. Entrees include veal tenderloin Oscar, pan-fried Chilean sea bass and charbroiled filet mignon with lobster tail.

Wally’s Desert Turtle’s New Year’s Eve Gala includes a six-course dinner, party favors and

champagne toast at midnight. Guests can dance to the eight-piece  dysFUNKsion Band. $195 per person.

Dance through the decades  

Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa hosts the biggest dance party of the year starting at 9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve in The Show. The party continues on the casino floor as a DJ spins hits from 9 p.m. to midnight. Enjoy party favors, and food and drink specials. Have your smartphones handy and snap a photo with roaming celebrity lookalikes.

You can also celebrate New Year’s at noon and win up to $2020 in free play in the casino (exclusively for Active Aces Members 50+).

Start the New Year right

Looking for something special to do starting on day one? Palm Springs Aerial Tramway has Ride ’n’ Dine tickets—which include tram admission and dinner at Pines Café (a cafeteria-style restaurant). These are available for purchase beginning at 8 a.m. (rather than the usual 4 p.m.). Dinner service is 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. Combination tickets are $36 for adults and seniors, and $23.50 for children (ages 3-10).

Additionally, Peaks Restaurant serves their regular lunch and dinner menus along with a special prix fixe holiday menu beginning at 11 a.m.  The first tram up is at 8 a.m. and the last tram down is at 9:45 p.m.
