2019 Rancho Mirage Speaker Series 2

Careers, addiction and adversity addressed by this year’s speakers

For more than 15 years, the Helene Galen Auditorium at Annenberg Health Sciences Building, Eisenhower Health has hosted several world-renowned and distinguished speakers for the annual Rancho Mirage Speaker Series. The 2019 Speaker Series lineup continues a strong tradition of respected headliners.

Cheryl Hines

First in the series to take the stage on January 15, is the Emmy-nominated actress, director and producer Cheryl Hines. While she is probably most recognized for her role as Cheryl David on the Golden Globe-Award winning series, “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” Hines has previously directed several television series and the 2009 feature film, “Serious Moonlight,” written by the late Adrienne Shelly and starring Meg Ryan and Timothy Hutton. She is also currently the voice of Mom blank on Guillermo Del Toro’s animated Netflix show “3 Below.” Her previous work includes films such as “A Bad Moms Christmas,” “RV,” “Wilson,” and “Waitress” as well as TV series such as “Son of Zorn” and “Suburgatory.”

Hines will step behind the camera to direct her first episode of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” this year as the show goes into its 10th season.


Dr. Drew Pinsky

Dr. Drew Pinsky, speaks on February 26. The host of “Dr. Drew Midday Live” is well-known for his radio and television programs such as “Loveline,” “Lifechangers,” and “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew,” among others.

A doctor of internal and addiction medicine, he is the author of five books, an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, and the former Medical Director for the Department of Chemical Dependency Services at Las Encinas Hospital in Pasadena.

During his speeches, Dr. Drew uses his expertise to inform and educate audiences on topics such as dealing with addiction and the effect it can have on families; bullying and cyberbullying; our narcissistic, celebrity driven culture, and more.


Elizabeth Vargas

Emmy Award-winning journalist Elizabeth Vargas hosts “A+E Investigates” and was formerly co-host of “20/20,” co-anchor of “World News Tonight,” anchor of “World News Tonight Sunday,” and co-host on “Good Morning America.”

Vargas, who has traveled the world covering breaking news stories, brings to the stage behind-the-scenes insight about her experiences covering some of the biggest stories and reporting from the front lines of wars and crisis situations. Additionally, with her signature candor and insight, she addresses her battle with alcoholism and how it has affected her life and career. She also speaks to why she talks publicly about her struggle and ongoing recovery.

Event information

The Speaker Series will once again be held at The Helene Galen Auditorium in the Annenberg Health Sciences building on the Eisenhower Health campus at 39-000 Bob Hope Drive, Rancho Mirage.

Tickets are available for individual speakers (Hines, Pinsky and Vargas). Doors open at 6 p.m. for each event and speakers take the stage at 7 p.m. A catered reception is available for an additional fee. The reception begins immediately after each event (approx. 8:30 p.m.) and includes food and beverage provided by Acqua California Bistro, music by harpist, Lynne Lockwood, and a meet and greet with the speaker.
