Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio

My latest obsession is the 2012 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival at the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio. Living right smack in the center of the Palm Springs Valley in Rancho Mirage makes it so simple for me to experience all the area has to offer. I’m so super excited I can barely contain myself!

This may be a bit hard to believe, but since I was a teen I’ve been a tried and true lover of all things to do with all kinds of music. And that’s why “Coachella” is my kind of place. I’ve been frequenting the festival almost every year since it began back in 1999. And I’ve seen all the biggies, including Ms. Madonna, Paul McCartney, Arcade Fire, Pearl Jam, Black Eyed Peas, Bjork, and Duran Duran—not to mention every iteration of rapper known to roam the earth. But the fun thing about this fest is that there is such an eclectic mix of musicians, from some of the most raucous rock, funkiest punk, and dizzying dance to the hippest hip-hop and rowdiest rap.

2012 brings a new format to the Coachella Festival, spreading out the event to two three-day weekends with an identical lineup of musical groups, which doubles the usual 75,000 fest-frequenter capacity and gives that many more people the opportunity to experience this music and art phenomenon. Fridays will have The Black Keys, Saturdays boast Radiohead, and Sundays will reunite Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg, who haven’t performed together in 20 years. About 75 more performers and bands will fill out the roster at the multiple-stage venue.

Obtaining tix can be troublesome, so line up early, find a posh place to stay (yes, I’m a bit biased toward my nearby Rancho Mirage resorts!), and come prepared for a fabulous, fun time.
