My blogging buddy Potter Palma and I often bicker like a couple of spoiled siblings—even though we were born in opposite hemispheres to wildly disparate parents—but one thing we always agree on is that beer is the bomb. Although we’re both enamored with classic cocktails, as well as the surging craft cocktail craze, we concur that there is nothing better on a warm summer day (or winter, spring for fall, for that matter!) than a cold and crisp glass of brew. And the opportunities for well-crafted local beers is on a definite upward trajectory.
We’ve often sung the praises of our hometown’s beers made at Babe’s BBQ and Brewhouse at The River in Rancho Mirage, fashioned right there on display inside one of my favorite restaurants. Their many ales and lagers are not only served in-house, but are now available at other dining establishments throughout the Palm Springs Valley, and sold at retail at Total Wine & More in Palm Desert.
Down valley a bit you’ll find La Quinta Brewing Company. Their half-dozen choices offering a wide range of alcohol content can be tasted in their Palm Desert taproom, and also found extensively in restaurants and bars throughout the desert, including at Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa.
Coachella Valley Brewing Company, located in Thousand Palms, produces more than a dozen different beers in their desert brewing facility, using one of the most sophisticated high efficiency brew systems in the world. Their farm-to-table philosophy utilizes local citrus, herbs, honey, and spices to produce beers that will keep you talking about them long after you imbibe. Stop by their tasting room and watch for their beers on menus throughout Rancho Mirage and the entire valley.
