Here’s a true confession: Yes, I am of that certain age where I am beside myself that rock greats Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Neil Young, Roger Waters, and The Who are descending upon the Palm Springs Valley tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday…and again October 14-16…at the Empire Polo Club in Indio for Desert Trip.

If you’re like me, you’ve had your pass for Weekend One or Weekend Two securely locked away in a safe deposit box since they were delivered a few weeks ago. If you’re still ticket-less, please note that while the www.deserttrip.com website is completely sold out, there are many individuals out there who are selling their pre-purchased passes for a variety of reasons.

Ditto for hotels. The word around town for months now has been that pretty much every room in the Palm Springs Valley has been snapped up. But as of this morning when I made calls and checked online, all four of our deluxe resorts—Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa (www.hotwatercasino.com) , Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa (www.omnihotels.com), The Ritz Carlton Rancho Mirage (www.ritzcarlton.com), and The Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa (www.starwoodhotels.com)—had a few rooms left to book. Plus, for an additional fee, you can arrange to hop a shuttle directly to and from Desert Trip at Agua, the Omni, or The Westin.

Now, as you surely realize, Desert Trip is unlike its big siblings Coachella and Stagecoach in that it’s not an all-day affair. Yes, each afternoon of the event the venue opens at 2:00 p.m., but the first act will not appear on stage until 6:30. That means that unless you care to amble the grounds before the main attraction goes live, you have plenty of time to discover the many joys of our desert—and of Rancho Mirage specifically.

Hungry? Rancho Mirage is home to literally dozens of breakfast-lunch-dinner restaurants, from casual to fine dining, where you can feast on cuisine from around the globe. Visit www.dineranchomirage.com for just a sampling. And remember that most of these places offer tremendous deals at Happy Hour.

Between meals, get a bit of retail therapy at shopping/dining/entertainment complex The River (located on Highway 111 and Bob Hope just across from Rancho Las Palmas). If you want to tempt Lady Luck, there’s no better place to do it than Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa. And if you want to pamper yourself like a rock star, each one of our four resorts offers complete—and completely luxurious—spa services.

All right – now it’s time for me to go pick out my outfit. I know the show is still more than 24 hours away, but it’s quite a conundrum when you have to figure out whom you want to pay homage to with your costume. Shall I go as Paul, Bob, or move like Jagger? Guess you’ll have to track me down between sets at Desert Trip to find out! Since I’ll be there both weekends, I’m bound to see you there… Let the music play!
