Diane’s at The River in Rancho Mirage

In my many travels around the globe, I picked up a shopping compulsion that has periodically been hard to handle.  I love buying bathing suits.  I’ve bought ’em in Brazil (did I really walk around Ipanema in a string?), and I’ve tried out suits of every stripe in Saint Tropez.  Over the years I’ve amassed a museum-worthy assortment of innumerable styles, colors, and fabrics… Yes, my collection even includes a bikini made of metal medallions!  But a woman of a certain age—and I’ve been calling myself that since I was about 23—at some point needs to reassess her assets and determine what actually looks good on her.  For that past few years I’ve found the perfect spot to do it.

Diane’s Beachware at The River in Rancho Mirage is my kind of place.  It’s a beautiful boutique clothing store that sells all kinds of apparel, including pants, shorts, jeans, skirts, dresses, shoes, and intimates.  But for me, Diane’s excels in the selling of swimwear.  Viviana is my girl there (yes, she’s a “woman,” but aren’t we all just girls at heart?), and she knows how to fit a figure better than anyone I know.

As a gal on the move, I’m thankful to be invited to all kinds of festivities, including a variety of warm-weather beach and pool parties.  And since I still don’t have the perfect figure that I used to think might solve all the problems of the world, I have options galore at Diane’s.  Each can satisfy occasions that call for minimal all the way to maximum coverage.  I love that now you can actually buy pieces separately that fit different parts of your body.  One-Piece, Tanktinis, Brazilian Cuts, Cheekies, Scrunch Butts (I love saying that), Triangle Tops, and many more styles in prices from about $50 to over $100 are available.  They even carry bathing suits by our Palm Springs Valley girl (there I go again!) Trina Turk.

I probably won’t ever get over my obsession for shopping for swimwear, especially with Viviana’s super selling skills and my proximity to Diane’s at The River!  But I must say, I’ve happily hung up my medallions.
