For those of us who love to forage for fabulous finds in the retail world, there is a new kid coming to town in Rancho Mirage’s The River: a funtastic new Forever 21 store. If you remember the former literary haven that packed up and left a bit back, you’ll be happy to know that the empty space it long left behind will soon be occupied by this Los Angeles-based sartorial retailer whose more than 500 locations and popular brand are already known to many of us in the Palm Springs Valley.
At about 25,000 square feet, the facility that previously housed the Borders Books & Music store will offer a huge collection of men’s, women’s, and girl’s clothing, jewelry, and accessories. Although the styles tend to be a tad on the more youthful side, I’ve done well while shopping in their stores, and I couldn’t be happier to see this space filled again! According to my gal pal Carol Ann Zale, general manager of The River, Forever 21 will be opening its doors around the end of October. Just in time for Halloween!
And speaking of which, desert denizen Lynn Abdelnour will be bringing one of her popular pop-up stores, Halloween Gear, to The River in the space formerly occupied by Ulta. For 27 years, Lynn has offered an amazing array of costumes and decorations for All Hallows’ Eve at various locations throughout the communities of the Greater Palm Springs Oasis. I’m a big fan of this autumnal holiday, and I shall be first in line to look at the ghostly, ghoulish goods when they debut in mid-September.
The River is always a remarkable respite from the rigmarole of daily life. Between all the remarkable restaurants, the super shopping, and the marvelous movie theaters—not to mention such recent, wonderful additions like Five Guys Burgers and Fries (one of my faves!)—I now have a few more reasons to hang out at my favorite Rancho Mirage haunt.
