One of my favorite relatively recent yearly events is the winter unveiling of the new edition of “R/M Magazine.” An annual that bowed in 2014, this premium, glossy publication is not only mailed out to every resident of Rancho Mirage—it is placed in all resort guest rooms, the Rancho Mirage Chamber of Commerce, and many other locations across the Palm Springs Valley throughout the year.

As always, the big surprise cover personality—Jamie Kabler, founder of the Rancho Mirage Writers Festival—was revealed at the launch party on Thursday, January 26 at the Rancho Mirage Public Library. As for the other stories in the magazine, a stable of top-notch local writers and photographers have been recruited to give the publication its usual pizzazz. Pieces and pictorials focus on such things as the Rancho Mirage Amphitheater in Rancho Mirage Community Park, some of Rancho Mirage’s most prominent medical experts, the perfect host/hostess gift, corralling a caterer, Rancho Mirage’s historical landmark Casa Chiquita, and the group of 16 homes collectively known as Tamarisk Ranchos.

Also worthy of mention: an article detailing the history of the ANA Inspiration—the first LPGA major of the year, founded by entertainer Dinah Shore in 1972 as the Colgate-Dinah Shore Winner’s Circle, more recently known (until 2014) as the Kraft Nabisco Championship, and since its inception played at our very own Mission Hills Country Club)…a piece about nine legacy golf holes in the city…a focus on luxury kitchen/bath/outdoor retailers…and a check-in with Rancho Mirage’s major food influencers (including a Q&A between yours truly and my fellow blogger extraordinaire, Diana Dodge). What may interest readers of this blog most is the roundup of fascinating places to have breakfast in town.

I’m personally so happy that this fourth edition of the magazine is finally out—not only because Diana and I are proud to be contributors but because it’s the type of periodical that is truly useful, chalk full of important information as it is. I hope you’ll read it cover to cover, and that it’ll be rather dog-eared by the time the 2018 edition is released!
