As many fans of this delicious epicurean outpost know, there’s lots happening at Cello’s Pantry on Highway 111 in Rancho Mirage. The working kitchen of seasoned restaurateurs, caterers, and husband-and-wife team Tom Steferak and Bonnie Barkley is also a gourmet deli, coffee and sweets bar, and gift shop. Additionally, it’s where I stop off any evening I’m in no mood to cook dinner for myself.
You see, Cello’s Pantry’s restaurant-quality “Grab & Go Dinner For 2 for $20” is just about the best deal of its kind in all of the Palm Springs Valley. The fully prepared meals come with soup or salad, protein entrée, starch, vegetable, and dessert. For $10 (or under) you can add Bonnie and Tom’s choice of wine pairing. And to keep it all as fresh as the ingredients that go into their creations, the pair changes this take-out menu weekly.
To wit: From March 21 to 26, it all starts with an ambrosia salad followed by turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, and carrot cake. The vino is The Seeker Sauvignon Blanc for $10.
From March 28 to April 3 (please note Cello’s Pantry will be closed Easter Sunday), the first course will be a green salad, followed by an entrée of seafood crêpes, whoopie pies for dessert, and a McManis Viognier add-on for $9.
If eating in is more your style, remember that Cello’s Pantry is open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner from 7:00 to 7:00. For the full low-down, on this jewel, visit www.cellospantry.com. Bon appétit!
