I’m one of those people who presumes that things should just persist in their intended purpose and continue to live on forever. So when a favorite lamp went on the fritz, I headed over to Lamps Plus on Highway 111, right across the street from The River in Rancho Mirage, to have it repaired. Of course, they fixed it with no problem (after all, it was just a loose wire), but while there I happened upon two other great retailers that I had not previously had the opportunity to patronize. www.LampsPlus.com
Right next door is a wonderful store called Fixtures Living that sells a super selection of kitchen, bath, and patio appliances. Their “Fixture Fridays” boast big-name guest chefs who come in and demonstrate their cooking skills and show off the features of the many recognizable brand name appliances carried in this beautiful emporium. www.fixturesliving.com
Next to Fixtures Living is the brand spanking new Modern Design, owned by Mame Boyd, a former aeronautical engineering consultant who made the creative leap into beautiful home design and décor. Her showroom carries products to cover just about every surface in the house, including flooring, wall panels, countertops, and pool tile, as well as items such as interior and exterior lighting, mailboxes, planters, door sets and locks, and even house numbers. Gorgeous goods.
I’m still daydreaming about doing a full reno of my desert rancho. Of course, if I decide to follow through with it, my fellow blogging buddy Potter Palma will be my first choice of designers!
