InstaART at the Palm Springs Art Museum

Where do YOU get your inspiration?  I won’t get all mushy and cliché on you, but daily I draw my inspiration from the beauty that surrounds me in my home in Rancho Mirage…the sun, the clouds, the mountains, the palms, and the perfect weather that we in the Palm Springs Valley sometimes take for granted.  For those of us with an artistic eye, creativity can come from all kinds of places.  We are blessed to have a vibrant art community in the desert, from world-renowned artists and burgeoning beauty captivators to total amateurs who just want to occasionally put a little paint to canvas or snap a shot here and there.

Recently, the folks at the Palm Springs Art Museum have started encouraging those who like to take photos with their cell phones (and at this point, who doesn’t?!) to seek out art that inspires them, shoot it with their phone, and post pics on Instagram with the hashtag #psartmuseum.  The program is based on the current show at the Palm Desert locale’s exhibition entitled “Beg Borrow and Steal,” showcasing artworks that have been inspired by the art of others.  (Interestingly enough, the show is a reference to a quote of Pablo Picasso: “Good artists borrow, great artists steal.”)

Art museum staff will monitor the Instagram account and post some of their favorites on the museum’s Facebook page, which will hopefully inspire the artist in all of us to be even more creative.  So be sure to check them out.  And while I’m at it, I must remind everyone that through some very generous benefactors, the Palm Springs Art Museum continues to offer free admission at both the PS and the PD locations on Thursday evenings (which coincides nicely with the weekly PS Village Fest).

Enjoy the art and beauty of the desert and let your creative juices flow!
