Johnny Rockets

Rancho Mirage has no shortage of burgers, some of the best of which may be had at Johnny Rockets on Highway 111 across from The River. But lest one forget, franchise owners Marriette Simoni and husband Nick Thomas have created a family eatery that is much, much more than a beef patty or two stuck inside a bun.

The last time I met a pal there for lunch, we were reminded what a nice touch it is to be offered a complimentary order of piping hot golden fries (every table gets one)—a way for guests’ hunger to be appeased while they peruse the menu. And what a menu it is. One that sees new items added every five weeks. Items like no less than 11 different burgers. And melts, chicken sandwiches, and hot dogs. Starters, salads, kids meals, shakes, and desserts. All made with the freshest ingredients—farm to table, thank you very much. If you don’t try the fried pickles you only have yourself to blame.

While most of what our Rancho Mirage Johnny Rockets (the third largest) offers is available at all 300 stores throughout the nation, one thing that’s specific to this location are the 20 draft beers available, all of which are only $3 with the purchase of an entrée. Free toys for kids. Discounted tickets through “Movie and a Meal” deals at The River. A dog-friendly patio. This place has it all—except breakfast, which is coming soon! Perhaps most importantly, Marriette is an owner not only with a genuine presence at her shop but with genuine affection for her customers and staff, and a genuine desire to make this a special place. Without a doubt, she’s succeeding!
