An Introduction to Plant-Based Cooking

You may have heard the buzz about the wealth of benefits that come from changing your diet, but how do you get started? Join Shannon Bush, Head Chef at Pastry Swan Marketplace, for a three-part introductory series that takes you from appetizers to desserts using only plants as ingredients. Join us at the Library to indulge your culinary curiosity. This hands-on program emphasizes gradual dietary changes that can make transitioning to a whole foods, plant-based diet less overwhelming and more realistic.
Friday, November 8, 3–4:30 pm • Snacks and Appetizers
We’ll start with a brief overview and explanation of what it means to eat a plant-based diet and the benefits that come along with it. Chef Shannon will introduce you to some of her favorite products and demonstrate how to make simple, delicious snacks and easy appetizers. Watch the demo, try some samples, and go home with recipes and the knowledge to get started on your quest towards a healthier diet.
Friday, November 15, 3–4:30 pm • Main Dishes/Entrées
Learn to make casual, satisfying main courses made entirely of plants. Chef Shannon will demonstrate how to make some of her most requested dinners with easy-to-find ingredients. Come hungry as sampling is encouraged!

With the holiday season almost upon us, learn the basics of how to bake and prepare plant-based desserts without eggs, butter, cream, or milk. You can still create delicious items to take to your holiday potluck and stay true to a plant-based diet. In fact, no one will notice the difference unless you want to tell them!
