Day in and day out, the Sun provides us with more than enough warmth here in the Coachella Valley. It appears to us as a general constant. However, a closer look reveals that the Sun is a dramatic and dynamic place. The activity on the surface of the Sun can impact the rest of the Solar System, and that activity is worth monitoring and predicting – just like the weather here on Earth. This space weather is increasingly important to our modern lives and will be vital to understand and prepare for as humanity seeks to venture beyond the protection of the Earth.
