Rancho Mirage is surely one of the most pet-friendly places I know. Our furry, four-legged friends are welcome at our beautiful public park, on the walkways of our premiere shopping and entertainment venue at The River, and even within our resorts. The other day I headed off to Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort and Spa with my friends Chris and Pat and their pups for the resort’s fun summer weekly Tuesday event “Paws on the Patio,” where locals are encouraged to enjoy happy hour libations at the Fireside Lounge with fellow dog owners and their pets.
This past Tuesday’s visit also happened to fall during “Negroni Week,” a celebration of the classic Italian cocktail made with Campari, gin, and sweet vermouth—totally delicious! With drinks in hand and three pooches on leashes, we had a great time visiting with all the others in attendance while also contributing to “Cocktails for a Cause,” where $1 from the purchase price of every cocktail-of-the-month is donated to a designated pet or animal organization. From teacup poodle to Great Dane, all the dogs were well-behaved, due in part to ample fresh water, gratis puppy treats from Stella & Chewy’s, and owners who were conscientious about keeping their pets in check.
Although Westin Mission Hills is always dog-welcoming on its property (the resort even offers a doggy version of their “Heavenly Bed” for those guests traveling with pups), Tuesday afternoon happy hour is the place to be for a fun time of mingling, sipping, and showing off the good manners of your canine companions. Look for Bunny, Rizzo, Abbey, Rosie, Giaco, and Lola—just a few of the many great new friends we made. www.westinmissionhills.com
