Well, we finally did take the plunge. Diana Dodge and I made a daytime date and met at the newly opened Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage to have lunch at the eagerly anticipated world-class resort’s signature restaurant State Fare Bar & Kitchen.
If you haven’t yet had a chance to amble up the hill to check out what has instantly become the jewel in the crown of the Palm Springs Valley, let me assure you that the facility and grounds are as breathtaking as one would expect, the Ritz motto of “We are ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen” is more than alive and well, and State Fare is the place to see and in which to be seen. Since I don’t dine and tell, you’ll forgive me for refusing to drop names, but suffice it to say that a who’s who of the valley is feasting daily at the Ritz.
As for lunch itself, the saving grace of having to choose among the embarrassment of culinary riches on the menu by Executive Chef Bruno Lopez—arguably the most accomplished cuisinier in the environs—is knowing you can always come back to make your way down the list. For our inaugural outing, Diana had the Cobb Salad, and I chose the cheeseburger topped with a bacon-coffee-caramelized onion jam. Delish, delish.
If you haven’t yet experienced the Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage—the only new Ritz to be unveiled in North America since 2010—get thee there pronto. Regrets you shall not have.
