I’m not one to brag, but as I’ve mentioned many times, as a tiny tot I had the privilege of meeting that terrifically tantalizing movie star-in-the-making, Miss Marilyn Monroe. So it’s with grand affection that I often visit the twenty-six-foot-tall tribute to her—the super statue of her likeness from the movie “The Seven Year Itch” that graces the corner of Palm Canyon Drive and Tahquitz Way in Palm Springs.
With the sad 50th anniversary of her death approaching on August 5th, a “Candle in the Wind” concert is planned next to her statue. That event will bring together a number of performers who will commemorate the landmark date. The concert will be free, and seating space (“BYOB/C–Blanket or Chair!”) is on a first come, first served basis. I’ll be heading down from my home in Rancho Mirage to see this one. Wouldn’t miss it for the world.
Speaking of Marilyn (and things being free, and bringing your own chair/blanket), Marilyn Monroe Movies will be shown on Friday nights at the Forever Marilyn site starting at 8:30 p.m. on July 13th at no charge. You KNOW I’ll be there for those also, rooting on the most beautiful blonde bombshell I’ve even met!
