In the wake of the recent departure of general manager Doug Watson—the man who oversaw the 2014 refurbishment and reopening of the luxury resort—The Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage has appointed a new captain to steer the grand ship. She is Kelly Steward, a 25-year veteran of the hospitality industry who has spent a decade and a half with the RC brand.
After kick-starting her hotelier career in Indiana, Kelly joined The Ritz-Carlton in 2001 as guest services manager at the Naples property. Since then, her posts have include stints in St. Louis; Dallas; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Los Angeles. Her most recent position was as the general manager of The Ritz-Carlton Cleveland.
A 2005 nominee for the JW Marriott Award of Excellence who holds a B.S. in Hospitality Management from Ohio State University, Kelly is a certified Leadership Center Speaking Ambassador who has served as an opening trainer for 19 Ritz-Carlton properties. “To be at The Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage creates a great sense of place from tranquility to vibrancy with the warm and genuine personalities of the Ladies and Gentlemen, our guests, and the local community,” she says. “There are exciting exploration experiences throughout the resort and I am so proud to invite others to share in this amazing oasis of my new home!”
