New Ritz Carlton Rancho Mirage Names New Chef

Tastebuds—on your marks, get set, go!  Well, almost.  The so-eagerly-anticipated-it-kinda-hurts-so-good Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage may still be weeks away from opening, but at least things are shaping up big time in the kitchen.  The luxury hotel chain has named its executive chef, he’s one of the world’s best, his name is Bruno Lopez, and contrary to his Latin-sounding last name, he’s French!

Lopez, who is a card-carrying member of the only-350-strong Maîtres Cuisiniers de France (the absolute A-list of gastronomy) will be at the helm of all things food-and-wine-related at the resort, which is now eyeing a May 15th opening.  That means that whether you’re feasting at the Ritz’s main three-meal restaurant, State Fare Bar Kitchen…in one of the other two on-site eateries…at a banquet…or in your room, Lopez’s deft fingers will make their way into your every pie.

The man grew up in Paris, trained at that city’s Ferrandi School, and apprenticed at L’Espadon in his home town.  Following stints in Versailles and South America, he came to the U.S., working for Ritz-Carlton in San Francisco, Marina Del Rey, Half Moon Bay, and Dubai.  Our snowbirds from north of the border will be delighted to hear that Lopez most recently toiled at the Ritz-Carlton Toronto.

I plan on being among the first in the Palm Springs Valley to experience his mastery on my palate, and I simply can’t wait!
