Palm Springs Celebrates 75 Years

The year 2013 will go down in history as one to celebrate.  Aside from all the fabulous events that surround the 40th anniversary of the founding of my adopted City of Rancho Mirage, and the 25th anniversary of the magnificent McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert, our very dear valley neighbor to the west—the City of Palm Springs—will be celebrating 75 years of its cityhood!

Just as Rancho Mirage has planned a multitude of ways to mark a momentous occasion, so has Palm Springs.  But none of its events will beat the blow-out bash that takes place at the Historic O’Donnell Golf Course on Saturday April 20, 2013 from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m.  The entire Palm Springs Valley is invited to join residents at this free, fun-filled party—called “Thanks for the Memories!  Palm Springs Through the Decades”—that will take attendees on a walk down memory lane as it showcases the city’s history and diverse culture with all kinds of notable nostalgic moments depicted.  (And although I’ve been made privy to a number of the exhibitions, I would never dare spoil the surprises!)

No party would be complete without some fab food and delicious drinks.   A delectable “Taste of Palm Springs” will be on hand, with many restaurants offering their tantalizing tidbits for nominal prices.  Music?  Well, of course, with selections from a variety of Palm Springs venues and the McCallum Theatre.  And to finish it off?  Fireworks are de rigueur!  And lots off them, if my solid source can be trusted!

As you may know, I was born and raised in Palm Springs, and this city holds a very special place in my heart.  I am so excited about its 75th year celebration and its position as the anchor to all the other wonderful cities of the Palm Springs Valley.  How lucky am I to live in the heart of this valley in my Rancho Mirage?!
