Palm Springs Desert Resorts Restaurant Week Means Rancho Mirage Deals

Every year, as the end of Memorial Day Weekend signals the official closing of high season in the Palm Springs Valley, I skip a few meals here and there to prepare for the first big post-high-season event in the desert: Palm Springs Desert Resorts Restaurant Week. In 2014, the feast begins on Friday, May 30 and runs through Sunday, June 8. For ten gloriously delectable days, more than 100 restaurants from Desert Hot Springs to Indio will offer special three-course dinner menus priced at either $26 or $38. What a great way for eateries to reward loyal diners while offering newbies an opportunity to sample their menu. Of course, you better believe that Rancho Mirage’s best of the best are participating—and that’s where I plan on being every evening.

But here’s my dilemma: At press time, there are actually 11 of my hometown eateries participating. With only ten nights at my disposal, I may just have to double-dip once during the week. For the record, and in alphabetical order, here are the Rancho Mirage restos: Acqua Pazza California Bistro at The River, bluEmber (the signature restaurant of Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa), Catalan, the Crab Pot, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse (also at The River), Las Casuelas Nuevas, Pinzimini (the signature restaurant of Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort and Spa), Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion, Shame on the Moon, Thai Smile Rancho Mirage, and Wally’s Desert Turtle.

Here’s a few things to remember about Restaurant Week: Time slots fill up far in advance, so reservations are de rigueur. The special prices are exclusive of beverages, taxes, and gratuity—and please remember to tip generously. These dinner houses are packed all week long, and your servers, bussers, and bartenders work especially hard for their money.

Also don’t forget that Restaurant Week has expanded to include non-food-and-beverage options. Again, at press time, Omni Rancho Las Palmas and its Spa Las Palmas are among the participants in the “Stay” and “See/Do” categories.

Since partakers are being added daily, do as I do—and check www.palmspringsrestaurantweek.com often to see the latest and the greatest additions. See you out on the town, making merry! I’ll be the one with the big, satisfied smile on her face…
