If it’s early June in the desert, it must be Palm Springs Desert Resorts Restaurant Week! And there’s plenty happening right here in Rancho Mirage between May 29 and June 7, the period wherein eateries, entertainment venues, and resorts invite you to “Eat, Play, Stay” with them to take advantage of specially designed promotions.
Founded in 2007 with only 30 participants, Restaurant Week has grown to include more than 100 Palm Springs Valley businesses. In my hometown of Rancho Mirage, in the “Play” and “Stay” categories, we are proudly represented by Omni Rancho Las Palmas, which not only has accommodations specials but real deals at its Spa Las Palmas as well (www.rancholaspalmas.com).
Not surprisingly, it’s in the “Eat” category—where local chefs prepare imaginative three-course meals for either $26 or $38 (exclusive of beverages, tax, and gratuities)—that PSDR Resto Week really shines. No less than 11 of our stellar dinner houses take part in 2015. They are bb’s at The River, Rancho Las Palmas’ bluEmber, Catalan Mediterranean Cuisine, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse + Wine Bar, Las Casuelas Nuevas, Westin Mission Hills’ Pinzimini, Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion, Shame on the Moon, Si Bon, State Fare Bar + Kitchen, and Wally’s Desert Turtle (whose star chef, Richard Pelz, is pictured, above).
Goodness knows I don’t ever need much of an excuse to treat myself to a yummy night out on the town. But during Restaurant Week, I literally make it a point to patronize a different eatery every night—for all ten nights in a row. So look for me. I’ll be the one in solo gastronomic heaven, or the one hosting a dozen friends around a big, happy table. Bon appétit!
