More than 20,000 film lovers from Southern California and beyond will be converging on our fair communities of the Greater Palm Springs area for the 2013 Palm Springs International Short Film Festival & Film Market, which will take place Tuesday, June 18 through Monday, June 24, 2013. While you are out in our beautiful desert—hopefully enjoying one of the fabulous resorts in my home town of Rancho Mirage!—going to the short fest can be a wonderful way to beat the heat and see some of this years’ best crop of short films. More than 320 mini-movies will be screened in 90-minute themed packages that include comedies, thrillers, dramas, films noir, romances, animated shorts, LGBT, and documentaries.
As an Academy Award qualifying event, the caliber of films is always hugely high, as evidenced by the 95 shorts that have earned Oscar nominations since the festival began 18 years ago. Maybe that’s why this short fest is the biggest and most celebrated event of its kind in North America!
And in addition to the films, the week’s affair also offers plenty of special programs, seminars, and master classes. Oh, and did I mention parties?! Lots of them! There are plenty of ways to enjoy the Short Film Fest, from individual tickets—including a fun opening night presentation called “Make ’Em Laugh,” which includes the always sold-out opening night party—to coupon books for blocks of films, or the ever-popular “Insider Pass” which allows holders to enjoy full access to all events. (I’m always a sucker for a bargain, so that’s what I buy!)
Summer is just as exciting as “season” in our beautiful Palm Springs Valley, and the Short Film Festival is but one more way to enjoy it. See you at the movies! www.psfilmfest.org
