Catalan Babes Pig Paella

Two of Rancho Mirage biggest and best epicurean brands—Babe’s (California’s 2015 Brewery of the Year) and Catalan (the Mediterranean restaurant celebrating its fourth spectacular year)—join forces on Tuesday, April 5 for “Pigs, Paella, & Brews.”

Held at Catalan on Highway 111—doors open at 6:00 p.m.; dinner served at 6:30 p.m.—the $49-per-person event (exclusive of tax and gratuity) includes family style dinner and tastings of Babe’s most lauded beers. “Our first Pig & Paella event was very successful, so we decided to partner up with a different brewhouse this time,” says Cynthia Davis, who with her husband, Chef Drew Davis, has made Catalan the success it is. “What better business than a neighboring one [like Babe’s]?”

On the menu will be Catalan’s paella mixta, which will be cooked in the restaurant’s courtyard (as is done for its popular cooking classes). Whole suckling pigs—properly hand-cut in the kitchen and presented on a platter for the buffet/family style dinner—will be accompanied by a variety of sides and salads.

The prize-winning and award-worthy beers on tap will include babe’s Honey Blonde Ale, its flagship Blackfin Lager, and its Belgian Vanilla Blonde Ale.

While technically not an anniversary party for the restaurant—which celebrates the fourth anniversary of its opening on March 27—Cynthia promises the occasion will be appropriately marked. “I will spoil the surprise,” she says, “and tell you that, yes, I will be getting a cake so Drew and the family can blow out a candle.”
