New RM Restaurants

They say when one door closes, another one opens. That’s certainly a truth of Rancho Mirage’s dining scene. Although we’ve lost Livreri’s Bella Napoli at The Atrium on Highway 111 and bb’s at The River, there are at least four new and exciting eateries destined to hang their shingle in the city before fall’s official arrival.

Pieology, whose trademark quip is “The Study of Custom Pizza,” has held its job fair and should open soon at the Rancho Las Palmas Shopping Center on Highway 111 at Bob Hope Drive. An interesting fact is that the make-your-own-pie palace—which will have Steinmart, CVS, Brandini Toffee, and more as co-tenants—is well-known for giving back to its community.

A 2014 fire may have leveled Bernie’s Lounge and Supper Club—a Palm Springs fixture beloved for being an ode to the Frank Sinatra era—but the phoenix is rising out of its ashes and flying over to Rancho Mirage in the spot once held by Dhat Island Caribbean and Creole Cuisine. How ironic that the new Bernie’s will be situated at the corner of Highway 111 and Frank Sinatra Drive (across the street from City Hall). Look for it in October.

Not to be confused with Fisherman’s Market & Grill (which has locations throughout the desert but not in Rancho Mirage), The Fisherman’s Restaurant & Bar is looking to reel us in with an early September grand opening in the spot that was once home to The Crab Pot on Highway 111. Though I’ve never visited its Seattle outpost, I’m a big fan of this Fisherman’s San Clemente location, and eat there literally ever single time I visit my dear friends Barbara and Claire in San Juan Capistrano. Oysters Rockefeller, anyone?

No mere snowbird who’ll fly the coop when it starts to get too hot in the kitchen, longtime Canadian modern pub chain Fox & Fiddle is coming to Rancho Mirage’s The River (where Sam’s Sushi used to stand) thanks to its Fox & Fiddle California. The “fine pub fare” on this menu is sure to be fun for foodies. Poutine, anyone?

While I’m among the strange ones who love our hot, hot desert summers, I truly can’t wait for autumn to roll around so I can visit these new eateries ASAP after their respective ribbon-cuttings. Stick with us at for all the latest!
