Eat Right, Learn and Spend Time With Loved Ones in 2020
New Year’s resolutions are easily made and, unfortunately, too easily broken. With the dawn of a new decade, Rancho Mirage has ways to help you keep your promise to yourself, no matter what you resolve to do.
Spend more time with the kids
Kids are only small for a short amount of time. Put aside some quality time with them while they are young. Explore all the fun at the Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert or see the animals (and feed the giraffes) at The Living Desert.
Take advantage of the Family Stargazing at The Rancho Mirage Library and Observatory. Special programs are family-friendly, a bit shorter, and wrap up well before bedtime. Registration starts January 14 for dates in 2020.
Reconnect with your beloved
If you’ve resolved to sneak away and have some one-on-one time, there are great hotel packages in Rancho Mirage to suit you. The Love & Luxury package at Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa provides two mini bottles of Moet & Chandon Rosé Champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, late check-out and more.
At the Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage choose the Getaway Package (valid through January 31, 2020). When you purchase two nights, receive a reduced resort fee of $30 and a $75 resort credit valid towards spa treatments or dining. Or book the Reconnect Package with overnight accommodations, daily breakfast for two and $100 resort credit nightly.
Make time for yourself
Did you resolve to find some “me time” in 2020? Head to Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa for the Ultimate Detox Ritual: 50 minutes of deep canyon therapeutic massage, 50 minutes of detoxifying mud wrap and a 50-minute Las Palmas essential facial.
The Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage offers a CBD Healing Recovery Massage with up to four activated hemp based products that can be utilized during your treatment to optimize your benefits. Or try the SEC-HE Rock Ritual. The Cahuilla Indians valued the healing properties of the surrounding mineral baths almost as much as the region’s natural rock resources. Embark on a spa ritual that honors the desert surroundings and leave feeling a strong sense of connection and calm.
Learn something new
If what you resolved was to expand your mind and learn something new this year, Rancho Mirage has a number of great ways to do it. Purchase your ticket today for the Rancho Mirage Speaker Series, “Legends of Sports.” See Danica Patrick (Jan. 21), Joe Montana (Feb. 18) and Chris Evert (March 17) live on stage at the Helene Galen Auditorium.
Be in the audience to see “Theresa Caputo Live! The Experience” at The Show. The Long Island Medium comes to the desert on January 25 to share personal stories about her life and explain how her gift works. She will deliver healing messages to audience members and give people comfort knowing that their loved ones who passed are still with them, just in a different way.
See artwork by Canadian First Nations artist Henry Hunt, his son and grandson and works by musician and artist Herb Alpert who was inspired by the Hunt family’s Kwakiutl totems, at Sunnylands Center & Gardens’ “Reach for the Sky: Tradition + Inspiration” exhibit.
Explore the collections at The Palm Springs Art Museum or sign up for an art class taught at the museum. Learn painting, mixed media, photography and more.
Plus, at the Rancho Mirage Library & Observatory, there’s a wide array of options to expand your mind and enrich your life. Join the Book Discussion Group to chat about “Washington Black” by Esi Edugyar and “The Library Book” by Susan Orlean. Take in lectures about jazz greats Stan Kenton, Sarah Vaughan and Charlie Parker. Hear live music with guitarist Peter Sprague or pianist Scott Beaty. Engage with the Learning in Retirement Series featuring a number of free programs for those age 50 and older, and find other great options in the program guide.
Get out and exercise
Take the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway up to Mt. San Jacinto State Park where more than 50 miles await you for hiking or cross-country skiing. Or explore the many trails in Tahquitz Canyon.
If you want to hit the links, enjoy the PGA Tour Golf Package at Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa. In addition to luxurious accommodations, take in one round of golf for each registered guest per day, plus a $75 resort credit, PGA Tour branded hat, golf balls and snack.
Eat well
Speaking of food, remember how you said you’d focus on healthy eats in 2020? If you fancy fish, head to Haus of Poke or Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion. Check out the salads and lighter California cuisine at Acqua California Bistro.
Stop by Juice It Up to get a healthy smoothie, bowl or juice. And if you’re looking for other nutritional fare, pick up something at Clark’s Nutrition.
Be kinder to one another
These days, our country seems more divided than ever. If you’ve made a New Year’s resolution to find a way to bridge the divide, find ways to overcome biases and grow in your appreciation of diversity, The Tolerance Education Center can educate you on ways to confront intolerance in all its manifestations and encourages understanding and acceptance of differences in religion, culture and sexuality.
