When my foodie friends ask me to extoll the culinary virtues of the Palm Springs Valley, I always zero in on Rancho Mirage because—in my humble opinion—my hometown has it all, gastronomically speaking.

The actual number of establishments that serve some sort of edibles—either one-offs or chain restaurants—hovers at around 65. And within that number, almost anything can be found, from casual burgers (Burgers & Beers, Johnny Rockets, Five Guys Burgers and Fries) and pizzas (The Slice, Michael’s Pizzeria) to the finest of fine dining (Shame on the Moon, The Edge at The Ritz Carlton Rancho Mirage, Wally’s Desert Turtle). Within the city’s borders, expert chefs prove their mettle in such varied cuisines as American (bb’s at The River), Belgian (Si Bon Bistro), Chinese (P.F. Chang’s), English (Lord Fletcher’s), Hawaiian (Roy’s), Indian (Naan House), Italian (The Old Spaghetti Factory, Pinzimini at the Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa, Livreri’s Bella Napoli), Japanese (Kobe), Mediterranean (Catalan), and Mexican (Maracas Cantina, Las Casuelas Nuevas), just to name ten (alphabetically). And in addition to this tour-around-the-globe sampling, we’ve got specialty purveyors such as confectioner Brandini Toffee, java house Koffi, grab-and-go godsend Cello’s Pantry, and award-winning craft beer maker Babe’s Bar-B-Que and Brewhouse—all four of which are desert-grown local success stories.

Naturally, you can eat almost around the clock, with Rancho Mirage’s eateries serving up breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late-night. We’ve got family-friendly, LGBT-friendly, even pet-friendly covered! As for dress codes, depending on the place and time of day, you can dine comfortably in shorts, a tee, and sandals (at Ben & Jerry’s or Juice it Up)…or in elegant evening wear (at Omni Rancho Las Palmas’ bluEmber or Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa’s The Steakhouse).

Overwhelmed? Don’t be. The best way to keep all things epicurean at your fingertips is to download the Dine Rancho Mirage app. There you’ll not only find restaurant listings but featured restaurants offering special deals, a chef spotlight section, a fan wall, a photo gallery, all of my and Diana Dodge’s food blogs, a tip calculator, a link to leisure-focused sister app Relax Rancho Mirage, and much more. Bon appétit, mes amis!
