I’m sure you’ve seen it around town. It’s big, it’s beautiful, it’s glossy, it’s colorful, and it’s chock-full of stunning images and superlative copy. It’s a guide, an entertainment, and an impressive thing to behold. It’s R/M magazine, the once-a-year publication that is mailed to all Rancho Mirage residents, placed in guest rooms at our resorts (Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa, Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa, The Ritz Carlton Rancho Mirage, and Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa), and gifted to new Rancho Mirage homeowners by local realtors. The publication addresses our city’s legendary history and luxurious resort lifestyle.
On January 6, 2016, a select list of VIP invitees will gather at Wally’s Desert Turtle on Highway 111 for the unveiling of the third annual edition of the publication. In attendance will be Palm Springs Life publisher Frank Jones and mayor of Rancho Mirage G. Dana Hobart, among many other local celebs and dignitaries. The surprise 2016 cover will be unveiled, all will feast on fantastic hors-d’oeuvres and cocktails, and a good time will be had by everyone.
Oh, and Diana Dodge will also be there, on the arm of yours truly. That’s right! We are so excited to announce for the first time that we have contributed separate stories to the magazine. Mine, titled “Hamburgers: Redefining an American Classic,” is a roundup of burgers and other specialty sandwiches that can be found in the city’s restaurants. Diana’s piece, titled “Hometown Highballs,” similarly rounds up the best of the best libations served across bars and tables throughout Rancho Mirage. Each article was photographed by local shutterbug David A. Lee, who was recently voted “Best Event Photographer” by the readers of Desert Outlook magazine in its first ever “Palm Springs’ 2016 Ultimate Pride List.” Both of our splashes are stunning spreads, and I can’t wait for readers to gorge their eyes on them—and then go out and actually taste all that we’ve written about. As you know, Diana and I adore spreading the good word about all the fantastic things our home town has to offer. Our contribution to this excellent publication is a great way for us to broaden both our brand and our reach to new audiences. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have been asked to be part of the team for the New Year.
While I can’t divulge the identity of our cover girl—or is it cover boy, or is it both?—I can tell you that just some of the articles within the magazine’s front and back include a piece about business people talking about their professions and why they live here, an article about shopping at our resorts, and an essay on what it takes to successfully buy a Bentley or a Rolls-Roy. Also included will be profiles of prominent people working and/or living in Rancho Mirage (all of them making a difference in their community), a feature about an amazing Midcentury Modern home within Rancho Mirage city limits, a history of golf in Rancho Mirage, an exploration of the Gardens at Sunnylands, a report on all things dog-friendly in the city, and a full listing of restaurants and bars. Just a few notables who will be making cameos—or more!—within R/M’s pages this time around include Jamie Kabler of the Rancho Mirage Writers Festival, Gabe Codding of the ANA Inspiration LPGA major golf tournament, Shame on the Moon manager and hostess with the mostest Ginger Carter, and artistic director of CV Rep Ron Celona. Not to mention Iris Smotrich, Barbara Boxer, Helene Galen, Annette Bloch, and Beverly Johnson to name but a few.
I also can’t resist mentioning that the last page will be talked about for months. It portrays a Hollywood star in a unique pose doing something that’s very rare in Rancho Mirage. So now that I’ve sufficiently whetted your appetite for R/M magazine, I hope you’ll do your best to get your hands on a copy. You can thank me later.
Before I leave you, I must inform you that Diana and I will be taking a well-deserved break from blogging for the next few weeks. But we’ll be back in early January. Meanwhile, we wish all of you pleasant and safe holidays and a very, very Happy New Year!
