With Valentine’s Day soon approaching, Potter and I know a lot of our dear readers are in the mood for love. And where better to let romance run rampant that in romantic Rancho Mirage?
If I were your sweetie, I’d Add Media love you to whisk me away for an overnight—or more—at one of the city’s deluxe resorts: Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa (www.hotwatercasino.com), Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa (www.rancholaspalmas.com), The Ritz Carlton Rancho Mirage (www.ritzcarlton.com/ranchomirage), or The Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa (www.westinmissionhills.com).
Naturally, whether you check into one of these resorts or not, a culinary tête-à-tête is de rigueur at one of their respective signature restaurants: The Steakhouse, bluEmber (which runs its $48-per-person twin lobster tail or cowboy ribeye steak “Naughty or Nice” dinner special from February 13-18, with a truffle dessert trio avec two glasses of bubbly for an additional $18), The Edge, or Pinzimini (whose Valentine’s Day dinner from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. includes a rose, truffles, and a half-bottle of Sparkling Graham Beck for $69 per person). Every one of these eateries has a different vibe, but each is sure to leave you, your honey, and your appetite starry-eyed.
Did someone say “spa special”? Talk about a gorgeous way to make your loved one feel loved. Option number one for solo or duo pampering is Spa Las Palmas, which offers its Spa After Dark evening on Saturday, February 14 from 7-10 pm. For just $109 per person, you can revel in a 50-minute special treatment that includes two complimentary glasses of champagne, chocolate strawberries, red velvet cake pops, passion fruit shortcake, raspberries in white chocolate, mango shooters, and mini ganache chocolate hearts. Following their treatment, guests are invited to stay late and celebrate by the cozy fires in the candlelit courtyard. Access to all the goodies minus the treatment is only $40.
Option number two in spa heaven can be found at the spa at the Westin, a resort that’s decided to devote all of February to lovers with its “Le Month D’Amour!” Promotion. Its spa soirée—with express massages, cocktails, hors-d’oeuvres, and more—happens on February 19th, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and is available for $25 per person. But in addition, the 28-day celebration here includes “Love 40,” a couples-only one-hour private tennis lesson ($40 per person); a Golf Couple’s Clinic every Friday and Saturday in February at 3:00 p.m. ($45 per couple); and additional “Sweet Spa Escape” specials.
Of course, Rancho Mirage has a plethora of other five-star restaurants at which to dine on Valentine’s Day—or at any other time. You can find them all listed at the Restaurant Association’s website at www.ranchomiragerestaurantassociation.com.
As for starting off the day on the right foot, why not surprise your partner with a bit of Brandini Toffee, the classic dark-chocolate-with-a-twist confection made right here in Rancho Mirage? Valentine’s Baskets are available for $59, as well as 2-pound heart tins or the customary toffee boxes with red ribbon. From February 12 to 14, a red rose will be given to each customer who spends $20 or more. www.brandinitoffee.com.
Go forth and celebrate à deux, my friends. But remember that love needs to remain firmly in the air on the other 364 days of the year. Potter and I send a big Valentine’s Day kiss to each and every one of you…
