Before we know it, it will once again be time for one of the Palm Springs Valley’s most well-known and highly regarded events of the year, the Palm Springs International Film Festival. Mark your calendars now to prevent it from sneaking up on you—and don’t forget to make your accommodation reservations well in advance. And maybe consider adding a few days of golf or tennis to your trip!
Taking place immediately after the winter holidays, this year the fest will occur even earlier than usual (in order to avoid a conflict with the announcement of Oscar nominees), opening just two days after New Year’s on Thursday, January 3, and closing on Monday, January 14, 2013. This year the Awards Gala will take place on Saturday January 5th, and for those of you early committers, festival passes and Awards Gala tickets are already on sale!
As in the past, close to 200 films from over 50 countries are expected to be screened, offering an opportunity for both new and emerging talents, as well as established and celebrated filmmakers, to showcase their works. Since its inception 22 years ago, the festival has grown to become one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world, and is often used as an Oscar predictor. Gala Award honorees will be announced in the coming weeks and the big night always promises to be an exciting time of hobnobbing with the very biggest stars in Hollywood. Last’s year’s roster included the uber-photogenic Jolie-Pitts, the gorgeous and immensely versatile Jessica Chastain, the effervescent Octavia Spencer, and the ever-dashing George Clooney. Beg, borrow, or steal a ticket to this one, folks!
The complete festival schedule will be posted online on December 23, 2012. Hope to see you there!
