Eddie Redmayne, Michael Fassbender, Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Renee Zellweger, Tom Hanks, Lupita Nyong’o, Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, Tom Cruise, Amy Adams, Brad Pitt, Marion Cotillard, Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Will Smith, Bryan Cranston, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone… No, I’m not rattling off the guest list for the star-studded extravaganza known as the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala. But any of these folks could show up just a diamond’s throw from Rancho Mirage come January, because each of these folks has a movie coming out between now and December.

That’s right! The fall movie bonanza that ushers in awards season each autumn is upon us. Just a handful of the most eager awaited titles coming soon to a theatre near you include September’s Bridget Jones’s Baby (Zellweger), October’s The Girl on the Train (Emily Blunt), November’s Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton), and December’s Fences (Washington, Viola Davis) and The Founder (Michael Keaton).

I don’t know about you, but I plan on being out in a stadium-seating auditorium with strangers in the dark at least four times a week until I’ve seen pretty much every performance worth seeing. And I don’t even have to leave my home town to do it. As you surely know, we have two state-of-the-art movie houses in in town: the Regal Rancho Mirage Stadium 16 & IMAX at Monterey Marketplace (corner of Dinah Shore Drive and Monterey Avenue, and Cinemark’s Century Theatres at The River on Highway 111 and Bob Hope ( Give me a Coke Zero and a bucket of freshly popped popcorn with butter in the middle and on top, and I’m a happy girl.

See you at the movies!
