Shopping and Wine Tasting on a Tuesday…or Any Day!
My pal Ann Peterson, a Rancho Mirage real estate professional, and I were recently meeting up for lunch at The River. It’s always such a treat, since there are so many great places to dine—like Acqua Pazza, Cheesecake Factory, Michael’s Pizzeria, and Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse. PF Chang’s was our pick that day, and after lunch we meandered over to Kristi Brown’s wonderful wine shop, Tulip Hill.
Both of us happen to be members of the Tulip Hill Wine Club, which entitles us to complimentary tastings at their tasting room at The River. Store manager Tom greeted us warmly and his super staff of wine experts poured us a few of their new releases. (Non-Wine Club members are charged a very reasonable $6.00 for five one-ounce tastes.) I’ve been a fan of the wines produced by Kristi and her business partner—and father—Budge Brown since they started squeezing grapes from their Northern California vineyards. I’m generally a fan of big bold reds, and their 2008 Budge Brown Napa Petite Syrah didn’t disappoint. For those who love a sweet red finish to a meal, don’t miss the 2002 Zinfandel Port. Divine! And on this particular day I picked up a case of the 2009 Reserve Chardonnay for a little holiday soiree at my home this year. Wine Club members buy at a discount. But even so, these well-crafted elixirs are all reasonably priced—especially considering the quality.
The store is chock full of great holiday gift-giving ideas, too. And not only for wine lovers but for anyone who cooks, entertains, or loves to BE entertained. Next time you’re in the area, please be sure to stop in to this, the only wine tasting room in the entire Palm Springs Valley!
