Spring Break in Rancho Mirage and the Palm Springs Valley

March and April in my beloved desert are—in my humble opinion—the most beautiful months of the year.  Well, October and November are pretty nice, too.  Ahhhh, and the holidays, and January, and…  I could go on all day.  Can you tell how much I love living out here in Rancho Mirage, the heart of the Palm Springs Valley?!  But seriously, springtime is my favorite.  The temperatures are warming, the flowers are blooming, and there are so many things to do you almost might forget to relax!

So naturally, when it comes to spring break, our awesome desert oasis exerts an amazing gravitational pull on families and college kids—or on anyone else looking for a fun “beat the winter blues” getaway.  Within a stone’s throw of my home in Rancho Mirage there are three gorgeous resorts, all with special amenities of their own.  Of course the word “casino” in Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa’s name tips visitors off as to what they’ll find at this wonderful property.  But there’s also nightlife, trendy restaurants, and a fabulous performance venue called “The Show,” which will bring in the likes of Chicago, Tony Bennett, Penn & Teller, and even Bob Newhart to entertain guests of all ages this season.

Down Bob Hope Drive is the beautiful Westin Mission Hills Resort and Spa, which boasts two of the best golf courses in the valley, a great tennis program, a super spa, and one of my new favorite restaurants in town, Pinzimini.

Located farther down Bob Hope (and across the street from The River—Rancho Mirage’s premiere shopping and entertainment center) you’ll find Rancho Las Palmas Resort and Spa, home of Chef Billy Deaver’s delightful bluEmber Restaurant.  Be sure not to miss RLP’s Splashtopia water park—exclusively for resort guests—which will have both wee ones and grown-ups frolicking in the lazy river or jetting down steep slides!

The family-friendly (and more budget-friendly) Holiday Inn Express and Hilton Gardens Hotel are also within the City of Rancho Mirage’s borders.

But accommodations are only a part of the winning formula for a fun spring break vacay.  There’s hiking and biking, theater and movies, fantastic eateries, nightlife, and shopping.  There’s the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, The Living Desert, Joshua Tree National Park, Idyllwild, the El Paseo shopping district in Palm Desert, Forever Marilyn and the Uptown Design District in Palm Springs.  And there’s the Coachella and Stagecoach Music Festivals, the White Party for the gay boys, Dinah Shore Weekend for the gay gals, the Kraft Nabisco Golf Championship, the BNP Paribas Tennis tournament, and on and on and on!

Or you can just soak up some of our legendary sun, sip a cocktail, and enjoy your break from work or school—or even retirement.  The Palm Springs Valley is just that kind of place.
