State of the City Luncheon

As two of Rancho Mirage’s many proud ambassadors, my fellow blogger Potter Palma and I were cordially invited to attend the recent State of the City: A Galaxy of Stars! Mayoral address presented by the Rancho Mirage Chamber of Commerce and starring Mayor Iris Smotrich. The luncheon was held on Thursday, April 9 in the ballroom of Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa, and honored individuals and organizations that have made a difference in and around Rancho Mirage during the past year.

After a brief welcome and introduction by Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Samantha Tweddell, Mayor Iris reported that Rancho Mirage is indeed hale and hearty, a leader among all desert cities in virtually every respect. She then presented eight awards, including honors to General Manager Doug Watson and the ladies and gentlemen of the Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage, Marcia Stein and Dr. Paul and Megan Copeskey and The Emergency Preparedness Commission, beloved and benevolent philanthropists Helene Galen and Annette Bloch, ANA Inspiration Tournament Director Gabe Codding and ANA VP of Marketing Masaki Yokai, and Annenberg Foundation Trust at Sunnylands President and CEO Geoff Cowan.

As Potter and I sat in one of the front row VIP tables near the stage—feasting with our fellow guests on freshly baked rolls (to start), a perfectly prepared Chinese Chicken Salad, and delicious, still warm chocolate nut brownies and a variety of cookies (to finish)—we commented to each other that we weren’t surprised that so many corporations and organizations, not to mention individuals, use Rancho Las Palmas for their conferences, summits, awards banquets, weddings, bar mitzvahs, and other public and private functions and celebrations. The food, the service staff, and the technical wizardry the resort provides make it a perfect meeting place to do business or to join loved ones.

In fact, so healthy is the state of our city—and such a magnet is it for people across the country and from around the world—that we’re so thankful to have three other deluxe resorts to host such events. So thank you to not only Rancho Las Palmas but to Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa, The Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage, and The Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa for being there for us. For all of us.,,,
