Is it just me, or does summer scream burgers and fries? Thought so… Thankfully, when I don’t feel like grilling in my back yard, I don’t have to leave the sumptuous comfort of my home town of Rancho Mirage to find the best burgers in the Palm Springs Valley.
When I’m in the mood for big brand burgers, there’s Five Guys Burgers and Fries at The River, or Johnny Rockets just across the street on Highway 111. Or how about dueling burgers at either Red Robin Gourmet Burgers & Spirits or Burgers & Beers, both of which reside at Monterey Marketplace across from Costco at Monterey and Dinah Shore?
Then, of course, there are the beef and buns (not to mention the cheese, lettuce, onion, tomato, pickle, mustard, relish, ketchup, etc.) served up at desert eateries that don’t necessarily specialize in burgers but certainly boast them on their menu. You can have a juicy hot American classic at the signature restaurants of Rancho Mirage’s quartet of resorts: Westin Mission Hills’ Pinzimini, Omni Rancho Las Palmas’ bluEmber, Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa’s waterscafé, or The Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage’s State Fare Bar + Kitchen (whose Hopscotch Cheddar burger, sporting Executive Chef Bruno Lopez’ proprietary onion-bacon jam, is a personal favorite). Or you can create your own one-stop-shopping burger tour by returning to The River, where the offerings at such fine establishments as bb’s at The River, Babe’s Bar-B-Que Grill & Brewhouse, The Cheesecake Factory, and Yard House will all sate your craving.
If I may, two more spots that merit special mention are Applebee’s, which serves up one of the most delicious Valley burgers I’ve ever tasted, and Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar (whose seven-dollar bar menu burger is one of the best deals in town).
In fact, the array of burgers in Rancho Mirage is so vast that one could have a burger every other day for a month and never eat at the same place twice. So, I say, here’s to a sizzling summer!
