The Dinah Weekend…and All That Jazz

For women who love women—and friends of women who love women, of which I am one—the annual Dinah Shore Weekend that brings thousands of the aforementioned females to the Palm Springs Valley is a gals’ gaggle to behold.  Named after the beloved entertainer/talk show hostess/golf aficionado, The Dinah (which is what the event is now officially called) was designed to coincide with the Kraft Nabisco Championship, LPGA’s first major golf tournament taking place at the Mission Hills Country Club right down the road from my abode in Rancho Mirage.  Apparently, among many other activities, LGBT women love golf!

This year’s event—the 23rd—is once again planned during the KNC and will be held from Wednesday, April 3 through Sunday, April 7, 2013.  Aside from having all the fun that can be had following their favorite golfers in Rancho Mirage, revelers will relax post-sundown with parties and entertainment offered in Palm Springs at a number of hotels and at Zelda’s Night Club.  The big “Club Skirts” blow-out bash on Saturday night at the Palm Springs Convention Center will feature pop sensation duo KARMIN performing their summer hit “Broken Hearted” at the Monte Carlo-themed fiesta.  (Keep your eyes peeled for yours truly out there on the dance floor boogying with my buddies!  Hmmmm…now, what to wear?!)  Other musical acts during the weekend will range from pop and dance to indie and electronica.  Something for everyone!

And for women who may want to dance to the beat of a different drummer, an added adjunct event will offer an alternative to the usual party music:  This year Dinah-lovers can also partake in the first Palm Springs Women’s Jazz Festival, from April 4 – 7, 2013, held at various venues and clubs throughout the area.

This legendary lesbian weekend is, of course, open to all who love and support their female friends.  I’ve been going for years and wouldn’t miss it for the world.  Rock on, ladies!
