What an afternoon I’ve had! With three more exciting days ahead—and the finale coming soon on Sunday, April 7—the LPGA Kraft Nabisco Championship Golf Tournament is in full swing. Pun entirely intended! I was pleased as punch to be invited by my old pal Polly from Peoria (now staying put year-round in Palm Springs) to watch some of the best women golfers in the world work their magic on the links of the luscious Mission Hills Country Club in my hometown of Rancho Mirage. Polly generously offered me a pass to the wonderful world of the 18th Green Suites—not surprisingly situated overlooking the 18th hole—where we were able to see the ladies lob their balls past Poppie’s Pond and into the final cup. It didn’t hurt that in addition to primo views and ample shade, the suites also offer unlimited food, soft drinks, and wine.
But that’s not to say that mere mortals—one of whom I usually am when I attend the KNC—are also taken well care of. This amazing annual event offers attendees reasonable admission rates, a wide selection of food and beverages (many catered by one of my favorite restaurants in Rancho Mirage, Acqua Pazza at The River), and a ton of fun golf wear and golf equipment vendors, not to mention the chance to watch (live and in person) some of the best pro women’s golf being played anywhere. New this year is something called the KNC Fan Experience. Open to all without charge, this cool venue offers everyone the opportunity to get into the game in a way never seen at the KNC before: Experience the fun of a cool golf simulator. Play to win a daily prize in The Long Putt. Get a free 10-minute golf lesson from a true golf pro. And get your photo taken with the coveted KNC trophy! It’s a blast.
The 2012 KNC winner, Sun Young Yoo, is back to defend her title. Tune in again (or join me over the weekend!) to see if it is she—or one of her hungry competitors—who will be taking the plunge into the winner’s waters of Poppie’s Pond. It’s a sight to behold! www.KNCgolf.com
