One of the things I love best about the time post-Labor Day—other than the hint of cooler weather yet to come—is the fact that I know that some beloved Rancho Mirage restaurants that closed for a summer break are back in business. And even eateries that didn’t take a hiatus are ready to boast their fall menus.

In the former category, Catalan Mediterranean Restaurant and Lord Fletcher’s—to name just two—have re-opened their doors. The iconic Wally’s Desert Turtle will do so in early October.

And in the latter group, many favorite places—including our quartet of world-class resorts: Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa, Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa, The Ritz Carlton Rancho Mirage, and The Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa—are just about ready to unveil their autumnal offerings.

As for something completely new and different, we have at least three new kids on the block on the verge of opening: Bernie’s Lounge and Supper Club (where Dhat Island Caribbean and Creole Cuisine used to be), Fisherman’s Market & Grill (going into the location once belonging to The Crab Pot on Highway 111), and popular Canadian modern pub chain Fox & Fiddle (going in where Sam’s Sushi once resided at The River Rancho Mirage).

You can rest assured, dear readers, that not only will my fellow blogger Diana Dodge and I be among the first in our fair city to sample everything gastronomically new and exciting but that once we’ve sat down at those fresh tables, we’ll share our thoughts—and our recommendations—with all of you here.

So bring on the lower temps that heighten our cravings. Let’s dig in and bid each other “Bon appétit!”
