One of the most magnificent perks of living in or visiting our beautiful Rancho Mirage and the wondrous Palm Springs Valley is the opportunity to drop by the Desert Hills Premium Outlets. If you’re traveling via Interstate 10, you can get your shopping done on your way in or on your way out. And even if you elect to go tempt the retail gods and goddesses some time during your stay, the trek to the fashion fortress is less than a half-hour away.
The best news to come out of Cabazon of late is that—after months of gargantuan work to complete a considerable expansion—the new and improved Desert Hills Premium Outlets are set to be unveiled on the morning of April 24.
The 146,000-square-foot new concourse—which has been established in the East Wing—will feature 49 additional stores, including the first outlets in the country for designer Alexander McQueen and deluxe British brand Belstaff. Other primo merchants setting up shop in the desert include Max Mara, Wolford, La Perla, Helmut Lang, CH Carolina Herrera, Marc Jacobs, Rag and Bone, Sandro, John Varvatos, Moncler, Maje, Frette, and Calypso St. Barth’s. Some stores which have long had a presence in Cabazon—such as Tod’s, Burberry, Bottega Veneta, Dolce and Gabbana, and Armani—are relocating to more beautiful and bountiful spaces.
The entire project, which began in September of 2012, and which includes a four-story parking garage with 1,100 spaces, came with a $100 million price tag. That’s just about how much I wish I had as my credit card limit so that I could shop to my heart’s content on April 24. The only question remaining when the gates of retail heaven open is, “Where do I start?”
