I liken my anticipation of the Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage’s opening to being an 8-year-old sitting at the foot of the family Christmas tree, gazing out at all the beautiful red, white, and silver wrapping paper glistening underneath the twinkling lights, and being told I can’t open a single one of my presents until…July 4th.
The Ritz’s debut has been pushed back many times, but thankfully, it looks like we’ll all finally get to see it long before Independence Day. May 15 is now the official opening date, and I fully intend to be among the first to soak up the Ritz-Carlton experience, desert-style. I was standing with general manager Doug Watson on the resort’s main plaza just a few months ago, glancing out at the breathtaking views of the entire Palm Springs Valley and imagining just how wonderful it will be to gather with friends and family to sip a chilled cocktail and nibble on appetizers at sunset. Now that the unveiling is so close I can taste it, I’m actually letting myself fantasize about hosting a breakfast or lunch meeting at main restaurant State Fare, or enjoying a romantic dinner at the Edge Steakhouse. Maybe I’ll even treat myself to a massage at the exquisite spa…or better yet, to an overnight on those 500-thread-count sheets that grace each of the 244 rooms available. The only problem is, once I check in, I don’t think I’ll ever want to check out.
So, join me in just a little more patience. Remember, especially when we’re talking about the Ritz-Carlton brand, where ladies and gentlemen take the utmost care of their ladies and gentlemen, great things come to guests who wait.
