The Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage Spa

The Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage Spa

There’s definitely something quite special to be said for being among the very first patrons to sample a brand new facility. And when said facility is the Spa at the new Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage, well…let me tell you…the experience tends toward the sublime.

I must say I wasn’t at all surprised by the elegance and beauty of the Ritz-Carlton’s spa—which is housed in an especially constructed structure separate from the hotel itself. And yet, upon arrival, the clean, sharp, understated sophistication of both the façade (with its calming water features and glass entrance doors) and its airy, sunlit main lobby took my breath away.

Quietly ushered upstairs to the men’s locker room by one of the spa’s expert, polite, and discreet front desk staff members, I basked not only in a spotless steam room but in an immaculate dry sauna redolent of fresh cedar.

It was when I was greeted by my therapist, Veronica, and escorted to my treatment room that my every expectation was truly exceeded. Had I expected such classy touches as a hydraulic massage table that could be adjusted to my particular body with the touch of a button? Since this was a first for me, I guess the answer is a firm “no.” Nor had I anticipated the outdoor shower ensconced in a faux-but-entirely-believable stone grotto that I spied through pristinely clean glass doors. (And yes, every one of the Ritz-Carlton’s spa’s 15 treatment rooms has such a stellar amenity.)

I had selected the spa’s signature treatment, the 110-minute, indoor/outdoor Spirit of the Mountain, and I can honestly say it was one of the most magnificent therapeutic experiences I have ever indulged in. Veronica started by gently exfoliating my entire body with a turquoise sage salt scrub. Following a warm rinse al fresco, I returned to my table for a massage using hot stones and oil, which melted away every muscle wrinkle to leave me completely relaxed. Finally, I was wrapped from the neck down in a mylar blanket over which were layered warm blankets. Veronica then proceeded to massage my scalp—and it’s at that point that my mind went aloft, drifting in and out of “consciousness” as I released every care.

Almost two hours later, I couldn’t believe so much time had passed so deliciously quickly. I dare say I didn’t want to move, much less get dressed and depart! Alas, real life beckoned. At least I answered its call more refreshed and rejuvenated than I’ve felt in an eternity. Please do yourself a favor and submit to the exquisite experience that is the Ritz-Carlton Spa. You won’t regret it. I didn’t. In fact, I can’t wait to return and make my way down the spa’s menu of superb facial, massage, and beauty services.
