The Slice is About More Than Just Pizza

It’s no secret that my hometown of Rancho Mirage is chockablock with great places to eat. But as I like to tell my friends, if you’re really diligent you’ll eventually be able to get to them all! And one not to be missed, especially while shopping on the Dinah Shore corridor of the city—or just hopping off the I-10 at Monterey—is The Slice, right across the road from my local Costco.

You might think that with a name like “The Slice” you’ve got it all figured out regarding what this restaurant specializes in—and you would be partially correct. But lest you think this tasty Italian eatery is just a by-the-slice pizza joint, well, think again. Yes, amiable owner Jack Srebnik and his team DO serve some fabulous pizzas (they are all good, but I especially love the margarita), offered by the slice and by the pie (dine in, take out, or delivery). But that’s only part of the story, and half of this establishment’s moniker. The full name, “The Slice – N.Y. Style Pizzeria and Ristorante” should tip you off to the fact that besides pies, you’ll find all kinds of truly authentic Italian fare here, all made onsite daily with the freshest of ingredients. Yes, that means homemade sauces, delicious dough and breads, hand-shaved cheeses, and outstanding dressings.

There are pasta options galore, with plenty of preparation and sauce options. I love the super fresh-tasting pesto with plenty of pine nuts tossed with fettuccini, and the Alfredo is to die for. On my last visit, I ordered the amazing lasagna, which—without exaggeration—could serve a small family. I had enough left over for dinner the next night, and then some. All of The Slice’s salads are great, and freshly made to order, so if there’s a listed ingredient that isn’t to your liking, you can opt out of it. Sandwiches, kids’ meals, a ton of tasty appetizers (including a couple of standouts: Bruschetta, Tuscan Hummus Platter, Grilled Polenta, and Buffalo Wings), and delectable desserts help round out the menu. With friendly service, a hefty collection of beers and wines (including their famous 15 wines by the bottle for only $15 each), I’m sure you and your friends and family will walk away as happy as I always do. Oh, and The Slice is right next to the Regal Rancho Mirage Stadium 16 Theaters, so it’s easy to make it a nice, fun, full night out!   www.theslicepizza.com
